Neil Downes, 20, known to his friends as Tony, died whilst serving his country in Afghanistan on 9th
June 2007. He was from Manchester and until 2003 attended Middleton Technology School.
Our friend Tony was one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. He never had a bad word to
say and got on with everyone. Always laughing and joking, he brought a smile to the face of everyone
who knew him. He will be remembered forever and sorely missed by everyone who knew him. rest in
peace Tony xxx

Reminders
I happened to watch the Iraq tribute last night and was moved by all of the stories having not seen this programme before.
Tony's story made feel that I should write a short tribute to his family simply to say that my thoughts were with you and how proud we should be as a country to have such dedication in our forces. It is so easy to forget the lives that are lost in the name of our beautiful land and our democracy.
I hope you are all as well as can be - although I am a total stranger to you all, I just wanted you to know that I will never forget Tony's story as well as all of the other service men and women.
2 years on and you are still in everybody's thought's and hearts as much as ever. You are so greatly missed!!! xxx
Dearest Tony
It's been 2 years Tony - we will always have fond memories of you. RIP Darling. Love Mary-Jane and Ian Little xx
Dedicated to Your Soldier Boy
My angel was a soldier boy
travelling far and wide,
He served his country faithfully
with his comrades by his side.
My soldier boy was just a child
when he signed up for the cause,
but little did we know that soon
he would be fighting in the wars.
He wore his uniform so proud,
and medals for all to see,
but little did I know quite soon,
he wouldn't come back to me.
So as he waved bye bye that day
We both stood there and cried,
and then that awful letter came
for his country he had died.
I sometimes smile, I sometimes cry
now that we are apart
I will never forget you soldier boy
You're always in my heart.
