Neil Downes, 20, known to his friends as Tony, died whilst serving his country in Afghanistan on 9th
June 2007. He was from Manchester and until 2003 attended Middleton Technology School.
Our friend Tony was one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. He never had a bad word to
say and got on with everyone. Always laughing and joking, he brought a smile to the face of everyone
who knew him. He will be remembered forever and sorely missed by everyone who knew him. rest in
peace Tony xxx

One Year On

Hello Tony. I have written a few words of which I am going to lay down with you, however I am also going to put it on here in case it blows away!

It's been one whole year since you were taken away
Yet you are still thought about so much each and every day
You were so strong, so brave our true hero
We all have so much love, yet our hearts feel at zero
It's a cruel world that has made us all suffer
We wouldn't wish this pain onto no other
No matter what though you have made us all very proud
I want to stand upon roof tops and shout it out loud
'TONY DOWNES THE HERO OF DROYLSDEN
ONE WHO SHALL NEVER, EVER BE FORGOTTEN'
We love you, we miss you it's hard but we do smile
At memories of you as we just drift for a while
So keep smiling and know that we are thinking of you
And you are still with us in everything we do.

RIP Tony, you are loved by all, and missed by more!

To Tony and all your family and friends on this very sad, difficult day.

My son Rob was a member of 1 Royal Anglian who served alongside the Grenadiers on that awful tour last summer. I lost him at 19 at Kajaki in the 'friendly fire' incident in August so I know how dreadful this has all been for you and I am so sorry that you have had to go through this heartache. My Love, heart and thoughts are very much with you today, especially with terrible news that we received last night. Tony will never be forgotten, his name is etched in many hearts forever more and we must take some pride in that. They were very special, brave men. God bless, take care xxx

One year on...

One year already, it has flown by - but there hasn't been a minute gone bye where i haven't thought about you. I still remember the moment when i found out what had happened, i was so upset i couldn't begin to describe it. However time passes and as mad as it sounds it does get easier to cope. I always manage to think about all our antics, always manages to make me smile haha.

Been missing you like crazy mate. Had a good drink around Droylsden yesterday, dropped in on your parentals, Nathan the little sex pest came for a few drinks with us but he couldn't keep up the pace though lol. We had a good crack. My thoughts go out to your family at this difficult time.

Rest easy man
