Neil Downes, 20, known to his friends as Tony, died whilst serving his country in Afghanistan on 9th
June 2007. He was from Manchester and until 2003 attended Middleton Technology School.
Our friend Tony was one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. He never had a bad word to
say and got on with everyone. Always laughing and joking, he brought a smile to the face of everyone
who knew him. He will be remembered forever and sorely missed by everyone who knew him. rest in
peace Tony xxx

1 year

I can't believe it has been a year!
It doesn't feel like a year since that awful day but it seems like forever since I saw you at the same time.
I wish you were still here with us mate, I think about you all the time, and miss you like mad!
I'll be coming to see you later anyway mate, hope there is room for my flowers!
Look after your mum and dad and everyone they must be finding it so difficult, today especially!
Take it easy kid!!!
Always in my heart, now and forever,
Carmel x

One year on...

One year already, it has flown by - but there hasn't been a minute gone bye where i haven't thought about you. I still remember the moment when i found out what had happened, i was so upset i couldn't begin to describe it. However time passes and as mad as it sounds it does get easier to cope. I always manage to think about all our antics, always manages to make me smile haha.

Been missing you like crazy mate. Had a good drink around Droylsden yesterday, dropped in on your parentals, Nathan the little sex pest came for a few drinks with us but he couldn't keep up the pace though lol. We had a good crack. My thoughts go out to your family at this difficult time.

Rest easy man

Hi You!

It is coming up to a year since we lost you, and you are thought of no less than you was back then. You are still as fresh as...I don't know...hot bread out of the oven to us all :) I cannot begin to imagine what your family are feeling right now, I just know we are all still so very very proud of you!

My thoughts are going out to your mum, dad, katie, nathan and jodie...and of course yourself.

Lots of love

Hi Tony! For soem reason it has been harder recently to believe that you are never coming home, and if I am finidng it hard I can only imagine that everyone is finding it harder! You really are still thought about everyday and missed terribly!
I haven't been as in touch with everyone recently and its horrible, just seems we don't all have time for one another, but time can be snatched away so I am determined to let those who I love know so, because its people like yourself that I never did.

Take care Tony...

I still find it so hard to believe that your never going to come back. I long to get a stupid text off you or walk in the pub and give you a big hug after weeks of not seeing you. I'd give anything for me, you, carmel and chris to do Strictly Come Dancing again.

I will always love you mate and I think of you every day. Jamies still obsessed with soldiers and watches your DVD from catterick all the time. I couldn't think of a better person for him to idolise.

Look after my dad up there for me.

All my love
