Neil Downes, 20, known to his friends as Tony, died whilst serving his country in Afghanistan on 9th
June 2007. He was from Manchester and until 2003 attended Middleton Technology School.
Our friend Tony was one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. He never had a bad word to
say and got on with everyone. Always laughing and joking, he brought a smile to the face of everyone
who knew him. He will be remembered forever and sorely missed by everyone who knew him. rest in
peace Tony xxx

Blue Red Blue always mate

Its soon to be rememberance sunday mate and i will be laying a wreath in your honour. I now wear a poppy behind my capbadge for you mate. Thanks for all you have done, not just for me but for the whole country. I stayed in the army beacuse you said you would 'kick my head in if i left' and i promise that i will have revenge. I will always hope to be at least half as good as you as you are a true soldier and a true mate.
